Bear is a well-known brand for offering high-quality mattresses. The most famous of these models is the Original Mattress. This particular kind of foam bed is best known for its stellar performance, with enough responsiveness, pressure relief, and cooling properties to keep sleepers cozy and cool throughout the night.
However, while it delivers very well in soothing nearly everyone, the Bear Original shouldn’t be the only option to look forward to. Many other premium foam beds in the market offer sleepers a diverse range of features and accommodations, some having a few more that the Bear can’t always provide.
Today we will be looking at the best-selling mattresses in Casper, Purple and Leesa. We’ll look at what makes each one stand out and what they share with Bear. You’ll get an overview in a very short time.
For those of you who prefer a more visual experience, here is a video review from Sleep Advisor’s YouTube channel. Do check out our article below, however, because it has a comprehensive overview of DreamCloud’s Bear Mattress.
The Bear Original Mattress Overview Bear Mattress Vs Vs Vvs
The Bear Original mattress premium all-foam mattress is packed with special features and functions that provide quick recovery and efficient comfort. It is available in Queen-size at $748 and is designed for active people such as athletes, frontliners, and first responders. It contains a top comfort layer of graphite-gel memory foam equipped to cushion the body’s pressure points and contour the silhouette. Bear Mattress Vs Vs Vvs
The Bear also has cooling properties contributed by the mattress’s open-cell foam technology and its medically-tested Celliant cover to ensure that the sleeper stays cooled – a unique asset that other memory foam mattresses don’t usually have.
Benefits and Disadvantages
We were able to evaluate the Bear mattress’s firmness and overall performance in our previous article. Based on our observations, it ranks 7 out of 10 in our comfort level ranking, making it a medium-firm bed. When it came to analysing through a series of performance tests, there were a couple of fascinating things that we found:
- Most sleepers found the pressure relief adequate. We found that the memory foam was stacked on top the high-density foundation. This meant that it held most pressure points well, particularly at the back.
- You can expect excellent motion isolation from an all-foam mattress.
- In terms of ease of movement, the Bear’s overall construction makes it easy for individuals to change to any position, yet somehow also manages to conform their bodies well.
While it’s worth noting its fantastic benefits, we should also mention that it has a few limits, particularly when it comes to heavyweight sleepers using the mattress. The Bear Original is not as suitable for heavy individuals – they may gain the comfort and support that it delivers, but they’ll find it a bit uncomfortable in the long run.
Who Should Use the Bear Original?
- Those who prefer sleeping on memory foam but don’t appreciate the sinking feeling at the same time
- Active individuals, such as athletes, first responders and others
- Couples looking for a best-value mattress with the best edge support and motion transfer
- For light and average back sleepers, a bed that feels like an innerspring model is a good choice.
Bear Mattress vs. Casper (Casper Original)
Casper, a bed in a box brand, offers a variety of high-quality mattresses, each one designed to suit different circumstances. Casper was established in 2014. It is the first direct to consumer mattress company to promote bed-in-a box delivery.
Its flagship mattress, the Casper Original, is one of its most popular products. Standing at 12″, the Casper advertises a medium-firm comfort level that most sleepers will enjoy. Casper Original’s queen-size variant costs $1,295, which makes it more expensive than the Bear mattress of $998. Casper offers a 10-year warranty for its bestsellers and a 100-night trial period.
Similarities
Both Casper and Bear mattresses have outstanding cooling capabilities from the beginning. Only the difference between the two mattresses is in how they do it. Casper uses its AirScape technology to allow airflow. Bear uses open-cell foam, graphite gel infusion and Celliant bed covers to neutralize body temperature while it sleeps. Despite being foam beds, both work well in cooling the sleeper.
The Casper and Bear have enough features to make them ideal for sleepers under 230 lbs. The memory foam layer on each mattress is designed to contour their bodies, alleviate pressure points and maintain their spine alignment.
Differences
The Casper features a memory foam support layer that is zoned. The mattress’s second layer consists of two soft top and bottom panels to cushion the shoulders and lower limbs and a firmer one in the middle to support the hips, waist, and lower back, providing the body with added comfort and relief.
As mentioned previously, the Casper has medium-firm comfort. It’s much more comfortable than the Bear Original. While some disadvantages such as difficulties in movement may arise, we find the Casper much more comfortable for strict side-sleepers.
Who Should Use the Casper Original?
- For those who want a premium foam bed that has all the Bear’s features and extra cushioning for their hips, back, shoulders, and hips
- Sleepers who enjoy the familiar sinking feeling when laying on the bed
- Individuals and couples looking for exceptional motion isolation.
Bear Mattress vs. Purple (Purple Mattress)
Purple is a sleep company specializing in developing innovative technologies designed and optimized to improve a person’s sleep quality. Their purple gel-grid polymer is what you may be most familiar with. Initially used as cushioning material to make wheelchairs more comfortable, this recent discovery has revolutionized the sleep and mattress industry in more ways than one. Bear Mattress Vs Vs Vvs
The 9.5-inch-thick Purple Mattress showcases the company’s contributions to sleepers from all walks of life. It consists of a four-inch foundational base and a 3.5″ transitional polyfoam. The transitional layer, unlike other similar mattresses like the Bear, is thicker. This allows the body to conform to its surface without sinking, unlike other similar mattresses. The Purple’s firmness is at the same level as the Bear Original but steeper in price at $1,399 (Queen-size).
Similarities
Although the Purple bed’s signature grid layer is different from the Bear, it provides back sleepers with the most comfortable comfort possible. The polymer grid is gel-infused; as the person lies down on the Purple, the gel in the grid activates, and it instantly adjusts to the person’s weight and sleeping position.
The Bear Original’s cooling capabilities are comparable to the Purple Mattress. Both beds have the same firmness. If we were to rank Purple’s comfort level we would confidently rate it at 7/10.
There are differences
The Purple mattress’s overall feel can be immediately noticed when you lay down on it. The Bear’s memory foam feel is still there, but the Purple Mattress has a unique surface which, when activated, becomes flexible and responsive to your body’s ever-changing movement. This gives it an advantage over all the rest. The Purple Mattress is easier to navigate than that of the Bear.
We can appreciate the endless possibilities of the Purple mattress, but it is hard to overlook the steep price tag. The Bear mattress is around $300 more expensive than the Purple.
Who should use the Purple Mattress?
- Those who prefer sleeping on top of the mattress’s surface
- For heavyweight sleepers, a foam mattress that supports their weight is a must.
- This is for those who sleep flat on their backs (shoulder or stomach sleepers may also consider this).
Bear Mattress vs. Leesa (Leesa Original)
Leesa was among the first direct-to-consumer modern companies to popularize the bed-in a box delivery system. It offers a wide range of models, from all-foam to hybrid. While their bestselling Sapira and Legend hybrid beds have gained high acclaim left and right, the Leesa Original remains one of the company’s fan-favorite product offers – and their most affordable option at $1,199 (Queen-size).
The Leesa Original mattress consists of a top comfort layer of specialty polyfoam formulated by the Leesa company and a memory foam layer underneath it. Its firmness may be a bit softer than Bear’s in comparison, but it manages to strike a balance between contouring and responsiveness. It’s easy to see why their flagship mattress is still in high demand today, thanks to Leesa’s outstanding customer service hotline.
Similarities
The Leesa measures approximately 10 inches tall, which is the same height as Bear’s mattress. However, they have much more in common than just height similarities. One of those is how they addressed the pressing issue of overheating, a recurring concern with all-foam mattresses. The Leesa utilizes the specialty top layer to help cool down the sleeper.
The Bear and this bed also share a common trait: responsiveness. Memory foam mattresses have gained a bad rep over the years for their slow responses, but both the Leesa and Bear are exempted.
There are differences
While the Leesa and Bear have memory foam and are responsive, we shouldn’t completely gloss over how each places this material. The Bear Original’s memory foam is used as a top comfort layer. The Leesa is placed in the middle of the mattress as a transitional layer.
The top layer of the Leesa mattress’s top is made not only of polyfoam, but also includes a mixture of memory foam. As a result, the Leesa mattress’s overall comfort level is much softer than Bear’s. It’s also slightly bouncier. Bear Mattress Vs Vs Vvs
Who Should Use the Leesa Original?
- Those looking for a much more responsive foam mattress
- People who love to sleep on top-quality beds with extra cushioning
- Leesa is a socially conscious individual. She has initiated initiatives to donate and give beds to children who are in dire need of quality sleep.

Bear Mattress vs. Nectar (Nectar Memory Foam)
Nectar is one of America’s most popular direct-to-consumer brands, stealing the hearts of a diverse range of sleepers. Their flagship mattress is the most popular and sought-after product of the company. It provides solid pressure relief and motion transfer.
We noticed that many of the characteristics of this mattress are very similar to those found in the Bear Original. Although we may have saved the closest competitor, we still appreciate what we found. We’ll be going through every detail very soon.
Similarities
Let’s start with the price. A queen-sized Nectar mattress is only $799. If you compare this price tag to the Bear mattress, you’ll notice the smaller difference between the two. The Nectar is only $50 more expensive than our old beds. This means both this mattress and the Bear are among the most affordable premium foam beds available on the market.
The Nectar’s firmness level is as medium-firm as Bear’s, although one of them is very slightly stiffer than the other. The construction is also identical: it is stacked by a high-density foundation base, a transitional polyfoam in the middle, and a gel-infused memory foam surface to top it off. This combination results in an ample amount of responsiveness to navigate around the bed.
The Nectar is made from a very simple material and should suit sleepers less than 230 lbs. Because of its excellent motion transfer capabilities, it should be a great choice to partner.
Differences
You could go on and forth about how identical the Nectar or Bear mattresses are to each other. We should also highlight the differences between these two bed models because they are different. The comfort layer’s thickness is one of the most noticeable. The Nectar mattress’s memory layer is one inch thicker than Bear’s. This makes it more suitable for people who sleep on their sides.
Who Should Use the Nectar Memory Foam Mattress?
- Those who want a medium-firm mattress that can also accommodate side sleepers
- People suffering from hip and joint pains are looking for exceptional pressure relief in a bed.
- Individuals and couples who aren’t interested in being disturbed by different movements.
Last Thoughts Bear Mattress Vs Vs Vvs
We’re now nearing the end in our review of Bear vs. Casper. Purple, Leesa and Nectar. Let’s talk about their limitations. While we can stop by and admire all the benefits they bring to sleepers anywhere, we still need to remind ourselves that not all of them are perfect.
Given the nature of all-foam mattresses, don’t expect many of them to have great edge support. They aren’t designed to accommodate heavy people, stomach sleepers and side sleepers.
We’ve got all that covered. Now, let’s talk about some key tips for finding the perfect bed.
- Make sure the mattress’s materials are strong enough to support your stomach, hips, shoulders and back.
- You should inspect the surface of the bed and its responsiveness. If you like to sleep in it and don’t want to move around, the comfort level should feel softer. However, if you frequently change your position, a firmer surface might be the best choice.
- Is the mattress cool? Is it able to provide great edge support? Does it have the buoyancy you’re craving? These are just some of the other important questions to keep in mind
You can choose to use the Bear Original mattress or another type of mattress. All that matters is that you find the bed that will give you the best quality sleep. Bear Mattress Vs Vs Vvs
