We were able to evaluate the Bear mattress’s firmness and overall performance in our previous article. Based on our observations, it ranks 7 out of 10 in our comfort level ranking, making it a medium-firm bed. We discovered a few interesting things when analysing the performance of the bed through a series test.
- The pressure relief was adequate for most sleepers. We found that the memory foam was stacked on top the high-density foundation. This meant that it held most pressure points well, particularly at the back.
- You can expect excellent motion isolation from an all-foam mattress.
- In terms of ease of movement, the Bear’s overall construction makes it easy for individuals to change to any position, yet somehow also manages to conform their bodies well.
While it’s worth noting its fantastic benefits, we should also mention that it has a few limits, particularly when it comes to heavyweight sleepers using the mattress. The Bear Original is not as suitable for heavy individuals – they may gain the comfort and support that it delivers, but they’ll find it a bit uncomfortable in the long run.

Casper, a bed in a box brand, offers a variety of high-quality mattresses, each one designed to suit different circumstances. Casper was established in 2014. It is the first direct to consumer mattress company to promote bed-in-a box delivery.
Its flagship mattress, the Casper Original, is one of its most popular products. Standing at 12″, the Casper advertises a medium-firm comfort level that most sleepers will enjoy. Casper Original’s queen-size variant costs $1,295, which makes it more expensive than the Bear mattress of $998. The Casper company offers a 10-year warranty on its namesake bestseller and a 100-night sleep trial period.
Similarities
Both Casper and Bear mattresses have outstanding cooling capabilities from the beginning. The only difference is how they execute it to make it happen: Casper utilizes its signature AirScape technology on the top polyurethane layer to allow airflow, while Bear’s combination of open-cell foam, graphite-gel infusion, and Celliant bed cover, on the other hand, helps neutralize the body’s temperature while it’s asleep. Despite being foam beds, both work well in cooling the sleeper.
Both the Bear and Casper have enough features that they are suitable for those under 230 pounds. Each also has a memory foam layer built to conform their figure, relieve pressure points, and keep their spine in alignment.
Differences
The Casper features a memory foam support layer that is zoned. The second layer of the mattress consists two layers: a soft top and bottom panel to cushion the shoulders and lower extremities, and a thicker middle one to support the hips, waist and lower back. As mentioned previously, the Casper has medium-firm comfort. However, between it and the Bear Original, it’s much softer in comparison. While some disadvantages such as difficulties in movement may arise, we find the Casper much more comfortable for strict side-sleepers.

There are differences
The Purple mattress’s overall feel can be immediately noticed when you lay down on it. The Bear’s memory foam feel is still there, but the Purple Mattress has a unique surface which, when activated, becomes flexible and responsive to your body’s ever-changing movement. This gives it an advantage over all the rest. The Purple Mattress is easier to navigate than that of the Bear.
While we can appreciate its endless possibilities, it’s hard to ignore the price tag – the Purple is more expensive than the Bear mattress by around $300.
Who should use the Purple Mattress?

Bear Mattress vs. Leesa (Leesa Original)
Leesa is among the first modern direct-to-consumer companies that, like Casper, have popularized the bed-in-a-box delivery system. There are many models available, including all-foam and hybrid. While their bestselling Sapira and Legend hybrid beds have gained high acclaim left and right, the Leesa Original remains one of the company’s fan-favorite product offers – and their most affordable option at $1,199 (Queen-size).
The Leesa Original mattress consists of a top comfort layer of specialty polyfoam formulated by the Leesa company and a memory foam layer underneath it. Although it is a little more firm than Bear’s, its responsiveness and contouring are still excellent. The Leesa is around 10 inches in total height, which happens to be the same as Bear’s mattress. However, they have much more in common than just height similarities. One of those is how they addressed the pressing issue of overheating, a recurring concern with all-foam mattresses. The Leesa utilizes the specialty top layer to help cool down the sleeper.
Another thing this bed has in common with the Bear is responsiveness. Memory foam mattresses are notorious for slow response times over the years. However, both the Leesa as well as the Bear are exempted.
There are differences

Nectar is a popular direct-to consumer brand in America, and has won the hearts of many sleepers. They’re best known for their flagship mattress, the company’s most in-demand product, and among the most sought-after overall. It provides solid pressure relief and motion transfer.
As we further checked what else this mattress could do, we noticed many of its traits are closely similar to the Bear Original. Although we may have saved the closest competitor, we still appreciate what we found. We’ll be going through every detail very soon.
Similarities
Let’s start with the price. A queen-sized Nectar mattress is only $799. If you compare this price tag to the Bear mattress, you’ll notice the smaller difference between the two. The Nectar is only $50 more expensive than our old beds. Both the Bear and this mattress are premium foam beds that are very affordable.
The Nectar’s firmness level is as medium-firm as Bear’s, although one of them is very slightly stiffer than the other. It is constructed in the same way: it has a high density foundation base, transitional polyfoam at the center, and a gel-infused, memory foam top. This combination results in an ample amount of responsiveness to navigate around the bed.
Given how it’s made, the Nectar should be a perfect match for sleepers below 230 lbs. It should also be a great choice for couples, as it has the same excellent motion transfer abilities.

We could go on and on about how the Nectar and Bear mattresses are identically similar to each other. We should also highlight the differences between these two bed models because they are different. Among the most notable is the thickness of the comfort layer. The Nectar mattress’s memory foam portion is an inch thicker than Bear’s and as a result, it’s more ideal for persons who often sleep on the side.
