This particular kind of foam bed is best known for its stellar performance, with enough responsiveness, pressure relief, and cooling properties to keep sleepers cozy and cool throughout the night.

However, while it delivers very well in soothing nearly everyone, the Bear Original shouldn’t be the only option to look forward to. There are many premium foam beds on the market that offer a variety of accommodations and features, including some that can be used for sleeping.

Today, we’ll be taking a look at the top-selling mattresses from Casper, Purple, Leesa, and Nectar. We’ll see what makes each of them stand out, and discover what else they have in common with Bear, which we’ll provide you with an overview very shortly.

The Bear Original Mattress Overview Bear Mattress Vs Into The Wild

The Bear Original mattress premium all-foam mattress is packed with special features and functions that provide quick recovery and efficient comfort. Priced at $748 (Queen-size), it is geared toward active individuals such as athletes, first responders, and frontliners. The top comfort layer is made of graphite gel memory foam, which contours the silhouette and cushions the body’s pressure points. Bear Mattress Vs Into The Wild

The Bear’s cooling properties are also due to the mattress’s open cell foam technology and its medically tested Celliant cover. This makes it a rare memory foam mattress that has this unique advantage.

Benefits and Disadvantages

We were able to evaluate the Bear mattress’s firmness and overall performance in our previous article. It ranks 7th out of 10 in comfort rating, which makes it a medium-firm mattress. When it came to analysing through a series of performance tests, there were a couple of fascinating things that we found:

  • The pressure relief was adequate for most sleepers. Considering the memory foam is stacked on top of the high-density foundation, we observed that it held most of the body’s pressure points very well, especially at the back.
  • You can expect excellent motion isolation from an all-foam mattress.
  • The Bear’s overall design allows for easy movement and conforms well to their bodies.

While it’s worth noting its fantastic benefits, we should also mention that it has a few limits, particularly when it comes to heavyweight sleepers using the mattress. The Bear Original isn’t as good for heavy people. They may find the mattress a little uncomfortable, although they might get the support and comfort it provides.

Who Should Use the Bear Original?

  • People who like to sleep on memory foam, but don’t enjoy the sinking sensation.
  • Athletes, first responders, and other active individuals
  • Couples who are looking for the best mattress value with best edge support and motion transfer
  • For light and average back sleepers, a bed that feels like an innerspring model is a good choice.

Bear Mattress vs. Casper (Casper Original)

Casper, a bed in a box brand, offers a variety of high-quality mattresses, each one designed to suit different circumstances. Established in 2014, Casper is one of the first direct-to-consumer mattress companies to popularize bed-in-a-box delivery as we know it today.

The Casper Original is its flagship mattress and it is one of the most loved. The Casper Original measures 12 inches in height and offers a medium-firm level of comfort that most people will love. Casper Original’s queen-size variant costs $1,295, which makes it more expensive than the Bear mattress of $998. Casper offers a 10-year warranty for its bestsellers and a 100-night trial period.

Similarities

Both the Casper and Bear mattresses offer stellar cooling abilities from the get-go. The only difference is how they execute it to make it happen: Casper utilizes its signature AirScape technology on the top polyurethane layer to allow airflow, while Bear’s combination of open-cell foam, graphite-gel infusion, and Celliant bed cover, on the other hand, helps neutralize the body’s temperature while it’s asleep. Both foam beds work well at cooling the sleeper, despite being foam beds.

Both the Bear and Casper have enough features that they are suitable for those under 230 pounds. The memory foam layer on each mattress is designed to contour their bodies, alleviate pressure points and maintain their spine alignment.

Differences

The Casper features a memory foam support layer that is zoned. The mattress’s second layer consists of two soft top and bottom panels to cushion the shoulders and lower limbs and a firmer one in the middle to support the hips, waist, and lower back, providing the body with added comfort and relief.

The Casper, as previously mentioned, has a medium-firm comfort level. However, between it and the Bear Original, it’s much softer in comparison. While some disadvantages such as difficulties in movement may arise, we find the Casper much more comfortable for strict side-sleepers.

Who should use the Casper Original?

  • For those who want a premium foam bed that has all the Bear’s features and extra cushioning for their hips, back, shoulders, and hips
  • Sleepers who love the sinking sensation when they lay down on the bed
  • Individuals and couples looking for exceptional motion isolation.

Bear Mattress vs. Purple (Purple Mattress)

Purple is a sleep company specializing in developing innovative technologies designed and optimized to improve a person’s sleep quality. You may know them best for their groundbreaking purple gel-grid polymer. This material was originally used to cushion wheelchairs. However, it has since revolutionized the mattress and sleep industry in many ways. Bear Mattress Vs Into The Wild

The 9.5-inch-thick Purple Mattress showcases the company’s contributions to sleepers from all walks of life. It consists of a four-inch foundational base and a 3.5″ transitional polyfoam. Unlike the Bear and other similar mattresses, the transitional layer is thicker, allowing the body to conform to the surface without worrying about sinking. The firmness of the Purple is the same as that of the Bear Original, but it costs $1,399 (Queen size).

Similarities

Although the Purple bed’s signature grid layer is different from the Bear, it provides back sleepers with the most comfortable comfort possible. The polymer grid is gel-infused; as the person lies down on the Purple, the gel in the grid activates, and it instantly adjusts to the person’s weight and sleeping position.

The Purple Mattress has exceptional cooling abilities that match the Bear Original. Both beds share the same firmness – if we could rank the Purple’s comfort level, we could confidently rank it at 7 out of 10.

Differences

The Purple mattress’s overall feel can be immediately noticed when you lay down on it. While the Bear has the traditional memory foam feel, the Purple Mattress has a unique surface that, upon activation, becomes very flexible and responsive to the body’s ever-changing movements, giving it an elevated advantage over the rest. The Purple Mattress is easier to navigate than that of the Bear.

While we can appreciate its endless possibilities, it’s hard to ignore the price tag – the Purple is more expensive than the Bear mattress by around $300.

Who Should Use the Purple Mattress?

  • Those who prefer sleeping on top of the mattress’s surface
  • Heavyweight sleepers looking for a foam bed that can support its weight to the best of its abilities
  • Those who usually sleep flat on the back (shoulder and stomach sleepers can also try this)

Bear Mattress vs. Leesa (Leesa Original)

Leesa is among the first modern direct-to-consumer companies that, like Casper, have popularized the bed-in-a-box delivery system. It offers a wide range of models, from all-foam to hybrid. While their bestselling Sapira and Legend hybrid beds have gained high acclaim left and right, the Leesa Original remains one of the company’s fan-favorite product offers – and their most affordable option at $1,199 (Queen-size).

The Leesa Original mattress is made up of a layer of memory foam and a layer of special polyfoam. Its firmness may be a bit softer than Bear’s in comparison, but it manages to strike a balance between contouring and responsiveness. With Leesa’s excellent customer hotline serving as the cherry on top of its capabilities to keep the sleeper comfortable, it’s no wonder their flagship mattress is still popular today!

Similarities

The Leesa is around 10 inches in total height, which happens to be the same as Bear’s mattress. However, they have much more in common than just height similarities. One of those is how they addressed the pressing issue of overheating, a recurring concern with all-foam mattresses. The Leesa uses a special top layer to cool the sleeper.

The Bear and this bed also share a common trait: responsiveness. Memory foam mattresses have gained a bad rep over the years for their slow responses, but both the Leesa and Bear are exempted.

There are differences

While the Leesa and Bear have memory foam and are responsive, we shouldn’t completely gloss over how each places this material. The memory foam of the Bear Original is placed as a top comfort layer. The Leesa is placed in the middle of the mattress as a transitional layer.

The top layer of the Leesa mattress’s top is made not only of polyfoam, but also includes a mixture of memory foam. The Leesa mattress is much more comfortable than Bear’s. It’s also slightly bouncier. Bear Mattress Vs Into The Wild

Who Should Use the Leesa Original?

  • For those who are looking for a more responsive foam mattress
  • Sleepers who enjoy laying on high-quality beds that provide extra cushioning
  • Socially conscious individuals – Leesa has held initiatives to donate and provide beds to children in need of quality sleep

Bear Mattress vs. Nectar (Nectar Memory Foam)

Nectar is a popular direct-to consumer brand in America, and has won the hearts of many sleepers. They’re best known for their flagship mattress, the company’s most in-demand product, and among the most sought-after overall. It provides solid pressure relief and motion transfer.

We noticed that many of the characteristics of this mattress are very similar to those found in the Bear Original. Although we may have saved the closest competitor, we still appreciate what we found. We’ll be going through every detail very soon.

Similarities

First, let’s talk about the price: a Queen-sized variant of the Nectar mattress costs only $799. Compare this price to the Bear mattress and you’ll see a smaller difference. While our previous beds cost hundreds of dollars higher, the Nectar only has a $50 difference. This means both this mattress and the Bear are among the most affordable premium foam beds available on the market.

The Nectar’s firmness level is as medium-firm as Bear’s, although one of them is very slightly stiffer than the other. The construction is also identical: it is stacked by a high-density foundation base, a transitional polyfoam in the middle, and a gel-infused memory foam surface to top it off. This combination results in an ample amount of responsiveness to navigate around the bed.

Given how it’s made, the Nectar should be a perfect match for sleepers below 230 lbs. It should also be a great choice for couples, as it has the same excellent motion transfer abilities.

There are differences

You could go on and forth about how identical the Nectar or Bear mattresses are to each other. We should also highlight the differences between these two bed models because they are different. Among the most notable is the thickness of the comfort layer. The Nectar mattress’s memory foam portion is an inch thicker than Bear’s and as a result, it’s more ideal for persons who often sleep on the side.

Who Should Use the Nectar Memory Foam Mattress?

  • Those who want a medium-firm mattress that can also accommodate side sleepers
  • People suffering from hip and joint pains are looking for exceptional pressure relief in a bed.
  • Individuals and couples who aren’t interested in being disturbed by different movements.

Last Thoughts Bear Mattress Vs Into The Wild

We’re now nearing the end in our review of Bear vs. Casper. Purple, Leesa and Nectar. Let’s talk about their limitations. We can admire the many benefits they offer to sleepers around the world, but we need to remember that not all of them work perfectly.

All-foam mattresses are not designed to provide a lot of edge support. They aren’t designed to accommodate heavy people, stomach sleepers and side sleepers.

We’ve got all that covered. Now, let’s talk about some key tips for finding the perfect bed.

  1. Check if the mattress’s materials and construction are good enough to support you on the stomach, shoulders, and hips as much as the back
  2. You should inspect the surface of the bed and its responsiveness. If you like to sleep in it and don’t want to move around, the comfort level should feel softer. However, if you frequently change your position, a firmer surface might be the best choice.
  3. Is the mattress cool? Is it able to provide great edge support? Does it have the buoyancy you’re craving? These are just some of the other important questions to keep in mind

Whether the Bear Original mattress is your best choice, or you have something else in mind, all that matters is for you to find the right bed that gives you the quality sleep you deserve. Bear Mattress Vs Into The Wild
