Bear is one of the highly-popular mattress brands making waves for its offering of high-quality models, the most notable of which being its flagship Original Mattress. This particular kind of foam bed is best known for its stellar performance, with enough responsiveness, pressure relief, and cooling properties to keep sleepers cozy and cool throughout the night.
The Bear Original is a great option for those who need to be soothed. There are many premium foam beds on the market that offer a variety of accommodations and features, including some that can be used for sleeping.
Today we will be looking at the best-selling mattresses in Casper, Purple and Leesa. We’ll look at what makes each one stand out and what they share with Bear. You’ll get an overview in a very short time.
For those of you who prefer a more visual experience, here is a video review from Sleep Advisor’s YouTube channel. Do check out our article below, however, because it has a comprehensive overview of DreamCloud’s Bear Mattress.
Overview: The Bear Original Mattress Bear Mattress Vs Circa Mattress
The Bear Original mattress is a premium all-foam mattress packed with specially-designed features and functions to provide efficient comfort and quick recovery. Priced at $748 (Queen-size), it is geared toward active individuals such as athletes, first responders, and frontliners. It contains a top comfort layer of graphite-gel memory foam equipped to cushion the body’s pressure points and contour the silhouette. Bear Mattress Vs Circa Mattress
The Bear also has cooling properties contributed by the mattress’s open-cell foam technology and its medically-tested Celliant cover to ensure that the sleeper stays cooled – a unique asset that other memory foam mattresses don’t usually have.
Benefits and disadvantages
We were able to evaluate the Bear mattress’s firmness and overall performance in our previous article. Based on our observations, it ranks 7 out of 10 in our comfort level ranking, making it a medium-firm bed. We discovered a few interesting things when analysing the performance of the bed through a series test.
- Most sleepers found the pressure relief adequate. Considering the memory foam is stacked on top of the high-density foundation, we observed that it held most of the body’s pressure points very well, especially at the back.
- Since we’re talking about an all-foam mattress here, you should expect it to have fantastic motion isolation abilities.
- The Bear’s overall design allows for easy movement and conforms well to their bodies.
It’s important to note its many benefits but it also has some limitations, especially for heavy-weight sleepers. The Bear Original is not as suitable for heavy individuals – they may gain the comfort and support that it delivers, but they’ll find it a bit uncomfortable in the long run.
Who Should Use the Bear Original?
- Those who prefer sleeping on memory foam but don’t appreciate the sinking feeling at the same time
- Active individuals, such as athletes, first responders and others
- Couples who are looking for the best mattress value with best edge support and motion transfer
- Average and light back sleepers looking for a valuable bed with a feeling that’s similar to an innerspring model
Bear Mattress vs. Casper (Casper Original)
Casper is a bed-in-a-box brand that offers a wide range of high-quality mattress models, each designed for many different personal circumstances, at affordable prices. Casper was established in 2014. It is the first direct to consumer mattress company to promote bed-in-a box delivery.
Its flagship mattress, the Casper Original, is one of its most popular products. The Casper Original measures 12 inches in height and offers a medium-firm level of comfort that most people will love. Casper Original’s queen-size variant costs $1,295, which makes it more expensive than the Bear mattress of $998. Casper offers a 10-year warranty for its bestsellers and a 100-night trial period.
Similarities
Both the Casper and Bear mattresses offer stellar cooling abilities from the get-go. The only difference is how they execute it to make it happen: Casper utilizes its signature AirScape technology on the top polyurethane layer to allow airflow, while Bear’s combination of open-cell foam, graphite-gel infusion, and Celliant bed cover, on the other hand, helps neutralize the body’s temperature while it’s asleep. Despite being foam beds, both work well in cooling the sleeper.
Both the Bear and Casper have enough features that they are suitable for those under 230 pounds. The memory foam layer on each mattress is designed to contour their bodies, alleviate pressure points and maintain their spine alignment.
There are differences
The Casper has a dedicated zoned support layer of memory foam. The mattress’s second layer consists of two soft top and bottom panels to cushion the shoulders and lower limbs and a firmer one in the middle to support the hips, waist, and lower back, providing the body with added comfort and relief.
As mentioned previously, the Casper has medium-firm comfort. However, between it and the Bear Original, it’s much softer in comparison. While some disadvantages such as difficulties in movement may arise, we find the Casper much more comfortable for strict side-sleepers.
Who should use the Casper Original?
- Those looking for a high-quality foam bed with most of Bear’s features plus extra cushioning on the back, hips, and shoulders
- Sleepers who love the sinking sensation when they lay down on the bed
- Individuals and couples looking for exceptional motion isolation.
Bear Mattress vs. Purple (Purple Mattress)
Purple is a company that specializes in the development of innovative technologies to improve sleep quality. You may know them best for their groundbreaking purple gel-grid polymer. Initially used as cushioning material to make wheelchairs more comfortable, this recent discovery has revolutionized the sleep and mattress industry in more ways than one. Bear Mattress Vs Circa Mattress
Purple Mattress, measuring 9.5 inches thick, is a testament to the company’s commitment to all types of sleepers. It has a foundational base of four inches and a transitional layer of polyfoam measuring 3.5 inches. Unlike the Bear and other similar mattresses, the transitional layer is thicker, allowing the body to conform to the surface without worrying about sinking. The Purple’s firmness is at the same level as the Bear Original but steeper in price at $1,399 (Queen-size).
Similarities
Although the Purple bed’s signature grid layer is different from the Bear, it provides back sleepers with the most comfortable comfort possible. The polymer grid is gel-infused; as the person lies down on the Purple, the gel in the grid activates, and it instantly adjusts to the person’s weight and sleeping position.
The Bear Original’s cooling capabilities are comparable to the Purple Mattress. Both beds have the same firmness. If we were to rank Purple’s comfort level we would confidently rate it at 7/10.
Differences
The Purple mattress’s overall feel can be immediately noticed when you lay down on it. The Bear’s memory foam feel is still there, but the Purple Mattress has a unique surface which, when activated, becomes flexible and responsive to your body’s ever-changing movement. This gives it an advantage over all the rest. The Purple is, among other things, much easier to navigate than the Bear.
We can appreciate the endless possibilities of the Purple mattress, but it is hard to overlook the steep price tag. The Bear mattress is around $300 more expensive than the Purple.
Who Should Use the Purple Mattress?
- Those who prefer sleeping on top of the mattress’s surface
- For heavyweight sleepers, a foam mattress that supports their weight is a must.
- This is for those who sleep flat on their backs (shoulder or stomach sleepers may also consider this).
Bear Mattress vs. Leesa (Leesa Original)
Leesa is among the first modern direct-to-consumer companies that, like Casper, have popularized the bed-in-a-box delivery system. There are many models available, including all-foam and hybrid. While their bestselling Sapira and Legend hybrid beds have gained high acclaim left and right, the Leesa Original remains one of the company’s fan-favorite product offers – and their most affordable option at $1,199 (Queen-size).
The Leesa Original mattress is made up of a layer of memory foam and a layer of special polyfoam. Although it is a little more firm than Bear’s, its responsiveness and contouring are still excellent. With Leesa’s excellent customer hotline serving as the cherry on top of its capabilities to keep the sleeper comfortable, it’s no wonder their flagship mattress is still popular today!
Similarities
The Leesa measures approximately 10 inches tall, which is the same height as Bear’s mattress. They share more than height similarities. One of those is how they addressed the pressing issue of overheating, a recurring concern with all-foam mattresses. The Leesa utilizes the specialty top layer to help cool down the sleeper.
Another thing this bed has in common with the Bear is responsiveness. Memory foam mattresses have gained a bad rep over the years for their slow responses, but both the Leesa and Bear are exempted.
There are differences
The memory foam in the Bear and Leesa is responsive and has memory foam, but we should not overlook how each uses this material. The memory foam of the Bear Original is placed as a top comfort layer. With the Leesa, on the other hand, we see it sandwiched in the middle as a transitional layer.
The top layer of the Leesa mattress’s top is made not only of polyfoam, but also includes a mixture of memory foam. As a result, the Leesa mattress’s overall comfort level is much softer than Bear’s. It is also slightly more bouncier. Bear Mattress Vs Circa Mattress
Who should use the Leesa Original?
- For those who are looking for a more responsive foam mattress
- People who love to sleep on top-quality beds with extra cushioning
- Socially conscious individuals – Leesa has held initiatives to donate and provide beds to children in need of quality sleep

Bear Mattress vs. Nectar (Nectar Memory Foam)
Nectar is one of America’s most popular direct-to-consumer brands, stealing the hearts of a diverse range of sleepers. They’re best known for their flagship mattress, the company’s most in-demand product, and among the most sought-after overall. It provides solid pressure relief and motion transfer.
We noticed that many of the characteristics of this mattress are very similar to those found in the Bear Original. Although we may have saved the closest competitor, we still appreciate what we found. We’ll be going through every detail very soon.
Similarities
Let’s start with the price. A queen-sized Nectar mattress is only $799. If you compare this price tag to the Bear mattress, you’ll notice the smaller difference between the two. The Nectar is only $50 more expensive than our old beds. Both the Bear and this mattress are premium foam beds that are very affordable.
Although the firmness of the Nectar is similar to Bear’s, it is slightly more rigid than Bear’s. It is constructed in the same way: it has a high density foundation base, transitional polyfoam at the center, and a gel-infused, memory foam top. The combination gives the bed a lot of responsiveness, making it easy to move around.
Given how it’s made, the Nectar should be a perfect match for sleepers below 230 lbs. It should also be a great choice for couples, as it has the same excellent motion transfer abilities.
Differences
You could go on and forth about how identical the Nectar or Bear mattresses are to each other. But since they’re two different bed models, we should point out the differences as well. The comfort layer’s thickness is one of the most noticeable. The Nectar mattress’s memory foam portion is an inch thicker than Bear’s and as a result, it’s more ideal for persons who often sleep on the side.
Who should use the Nectar Memory Foam Mattress
- Those who want a medium-firm mattress that can also accommodate side sleepers
- Persons suffering from joint and hip pains looking for a bed with exceptional pressure relief
- Couples or individuals who don’t want to be easily disturbed by varying movements
Final Thoughts Bear Mattress Vs Circa Mattress
We’re now nearing the end in our review of Bear vs. Casper. Purple, Leesa and Nectar. Let’s talk about their limitations. We can admire the many benefits they offer to sleepers around the world, but we need to remember that not all of them work perfectly.
Given the nature of all-foam mattresses, don’t expect many of them to have great edge support. You shouldn’t expect them to be accommodating to heavy persons, side sleepers, and stomach sleepers, either, as most are not readily equipped to handle large weights.
With all of that out of the way, we’d like to share some important tips to keep in mind in searching for the right bed:
- Check if the mattress’s materials and construction are good enough to support you on the stomach, shoulders, and hips as much as the back
- You should inspect the surface of the bed and its responsiveness. If you like to sleep in it and don’t want to move around, the comfort level should feel softer. However, if you frequently change your position, a firmer surface might be the best choice.
- Does the perfect mattress have cooling abilities? Does it have great edge support? Does it have the buoyancy you’re craving? These are just a few of the important questions you need to ask.
Whether the Bear Original mattress is your best choice, or you have something else in mind, all that matters is for you to find the right bed that gives you the quality sleep you deserve. Bear Mattress Vs Circa Mattress
