Bear is a well-known brand for offering high-quality mattresses. The most famous of these models is the Original Mattress. This foam mattress is well-known for its outstanding performance. Benefits and Disadvantages
We were able to evaluate the Bear mattress’s firmness and overall performance in our previous article. It ranks 7th out of 10 in comfort rating, which makes it a medium-firm mattress. When it came to analysing through a series of performance tests, there were a couple of fascinating things that we found:
- Most sleepers found the pressure relief adequate. We found that the memory foam was stacked on top the high-density foundation. This meant that it held most pressure points well, particularly at the back.

- In terms of ease of movement, the Bear’s overall construction makes it easy for individuals to change to any position, yet somehow also manages to conform their bodies well.
It’s important to note its many benefits but it also has some limitations, especially for heavy-weight sleepers. The Bear Original is not as suitable for heavy individuals – they may gain the comfort and support that it delivers, but they’ll find it a bit uncomfortable in the long run.

Casper is a bed-in-a-box brand that offers a wide range of high-quality mattress models, each designed for many different personal circumstances, at affordable prices. Established in 2014, Casper is one of the first direct-to-consumer mattress companies to popularize bed-in-a-box delivery as we know it today.
Its flagship mattress, the Casper Original, is one of its most popular products. The Casper Original measures 12 inches in height and offers a medium-firm level of comfort that most people will love. Casper Original’s queen-size variant costs $1,295, which makes it more expensive than the Bear mattress of $998. The Casper company offers a 10-year warranty on its namesake bestseller and a 100-night sleep trial period.
Similarities
Both the Casper and Bear mattresses offer stellar cooling abilities from the get-go. Only the difference between the two mattresses is in how they do it. Casper uses its AirScape technology to allow airflow. Bear uses open-cell foam, graphite gel infusion and Celliant bed covers to neutralize body temperature while it sleeps. Despite being foam beds, both work well in cooling the sleeper.
Both the Bear and Casper have enough features that they are suitable for those under 230 pounds. Each also has a memory foam layer built to conform their figure, relieve pressure points, and keep their spine in alignment.
There are differences
The Casper has a dedicated zoned support layer of memory foam. The mattress’s second layer consists of two soft top and bottom panels to cushion the shoulders and lower limbs and a firmer one in the middle to support the hips, waist, and lower back, providing the body with added comfort and relief.
As mentioned previously, the Casper has medium-firm comfort. It’s much more comfortable than the Bear Original. Although there are some drawbacks, such as difficulty in moving, the Casper is much more comfortable for side-sleepers.

While the Bear has the traditional memory foam feel, the Purple Mattress has a unique surface that, upon activation, becomes very flexible and responsive to the body’s ever-changing movements, giving it an elevated advantage over the rest. The Purple is, among other things, much easier to navigate than the Bear.
While we can appreciate its endless possibilities, it’s hard to ignore the price tag – the Purple is more expensive than the Bear mattress by around $300.
Who should use the Purple Mattress?

- Heavyweight sleepers looking for a foam bed that can support its weight to the best of its abilities

Bear Mattress vs. Leesa (Leesa Original)
Leesa was among the first direct-to-consumer modern companies to popularize the bed-in a box delivery system. There are many models available, including all-foam and hybrid. While their bestselling Sapira and Legend hybrid beds have gained high acclaim left and right, the Leesa Original remains one of the company’s fan-favorite product offers – and their most affordable option at $1,199 (Queen-size).
The Leesa Original mattress consists of a top comfort layer of specialty polyfoam formulated by the Leesa company and a memory foam layer underneath it. Although it is a little more firm than Bear’s, its responsiveness and contouring are still excellent. The Leesa measures approximately 10 inches tall, which is the same height as Bear’s mattress. They share more than height similarities. We noticed that many of the characteristics of this mattress are very similar to those found in the Bear Original. We may have saved our closest, near-identical competitor for last, but while we can appreciate what we’ve discovered, it’s still worth noting that they have a few distinctions – we’ll go through all of it very shortly.
Similarities
Let’s start with the price. A queen-sized Nectar mattress is only $799. Compare this price to the Bear mattress and you’ll see a smaller difference. While our previous beds cost hundreds of dollars higher, the Nectar only has a $50 difference. This means both this mattress and the Bear are among the most affordable premium foam beds available on the market.
Although the firmness of the Nectar is similar to Bear’s, it is slightly more rigid than Bear’s. The combination gives the bed a lot of responsiveness, making it easy to move around.

You could go on and forth about how identical the Nectar or Bear mattresses are to each other. We should also highlight the differences between these two bed models because they are different. Among the most notable is the thickness of the comfort layer. The Nectar mattress’s memory layer is one inch thicker than Bear’s. This makes it more suitable for people who sleep on their sides.
