100% Natural
Crafted entirely from New Zealand's finest pure unbleached merino wool, the Merino Kids Cocooi Babywrap swaddler is luxuriously soft and 100% natural, renewable and biodegradeable. It contains no spandex, nor has it been treated with chemicals for fire retardance, and it is safe to use for babies with allergies, eczema and sensitive skin.
Superfine Merino
Modern science still cannot duplicate the amazing natural properties of superfine merino wool fiber. Merino fiber is one-tenth the thickness of a human hair and this extraordinary fineness combined with its natural crimp produce millions of tiny air pockets which trap air to insulate your baby on cooler nights.
Merino fiber also has the remarkable ability to absorb and release moisture, to cool or warm your baby's body, regulating your baby's body temperature so they don't wake up cold or overheated.
Regulates Body Temperature
The air temperature in a nursery can fluctuate from day to day, and into the early hours of the morning. A newborn baby often wakes either too hot or too cold because it takes time for their body to develop the full capability to regulate its temperature. Only merino fiber has the remarkable ability to regulate body temperature to compensate. It captures and circulates air to insulate your baby when the room temperature falls, and releases excess body heat and moisture as the room temperature rises, to create the perfect micro-climate around their body.
For this reason the Merino Kids Cocooi Babywrap swaddler provides the ideal sleeping environment for a newborn baby in any season. Simply dress your baby in more or fewer layers of natural-fabric sleepwear in cooler or warmer seasons. Try to avoid synthetic sleepwear fabrics such as polyester because they do not release heat and moisture.
Merino fabric will readily absorb perspiration and release it into the air to help prevent your baby from overheating and waking up damp. Tests conducted by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia showed that merino fabric has an amazing capacity to absorb liquid - up to 35% of its own weight - compared with synthetic fabrics which are commonly around 1% absorption.
Cotton is not so poor as synthetics at absorbing moisture and cotton fabric typically absorbs moisture up to 24% of its own weight. However cotton does not release moisture sufficiently and babies sleeping in cotton swaddles can wake up damp and chilled from their perspiration.
No Arm Restraints, Velcro or Fasteners
Merino fibers have a natural elasticity that allows them to be stretched up to one-third their length before returning to their original size. This natural elasticity, in conjunction with the innovative diagonal-winged design of the Cocooi Babywrap, explains how it can fit newborn babies up to three months old snugly and securely without resorting to artificial spandex, self-fasteners or constricting arm restraints.
The patented diagonal-winged design of the Cocooi Babywrap swaddler allows the soft merino fabric to flow naturally in a diagonal direction down over your baby's shoulders and across their chest. The diagonal wings hug your baby close so they can't wriggle free and the cross-over swaddle ensures the fabric stays clear of their face while they sleep.
By contrast, traditional swaddling blankets have square corners horizontal to the baby and do not fold naturally across their shoulders and chest. Traditional swaddling blankets must be tugged tightly around your baby's body causing uncomfortable blanket creases, they can come undone, and there is a risk of blanket fabric gathering up around your baby's face.
Swaddling blankets have advanced in recent years beyond simple square cuts of fabric to specialized 'swaddlers' with flaps, pouches and horizontal 'wings', but older designs are limited by their square wing shape. To stay in place they often require knots, buttons, snaps or harsh and noisy velcro patches, arm restraints, or multiple layering of fabric.
The award-winning new design of the Cocooi Babywrap does not require fasteners or arm restraints, and its graceful diagonal wings are sized for an easy single wrap over your baby's shoulders and around your baby's body. This simplifies swaddling, reduces the time handling your baby while swaddling, and makes for a more relaxed sleep-time routine.
Freedom to Move
In the Cocooi Babywrap your baby has the freedom to sleep and move naturally as they would in the confined space of the womb. They can tuck their hands against their chest, raise up their knees, and kick and punch, without the swaddle coming undone or covering their face. This wouldn't be possible without the patented diagonal-wing Cocooi Babywrap design.
It's not necessary to immobilize your baby's arms to prevent startle reflex with the Cocooi Babywrap. Your baby can enjoy natural limb movement for comfort and early brain development but won't scratch, twitch and wake themselves.
The handy leg pouch allows for quick diaper checks and changes in the night without unwrapping your baby's arms which might wake them. Some swaddlers require that you uncover your baby's feet in hot conditions for ventilation. This is unnecessary with the Cocooi Babywrap due to merino's remarkable ability to release excess heat and moisture and regulate baby temperature.
Car Seat and Stroller-Compatible
The Cocooi Babywrap's innovative safety belt aperture allows your baby to be swaddled when riding in the car or stroller.
To use the Cocooi Babywrap in a child car seat, open it out flat across the car seat and insert the center strap of the car seat safety harness through the Cocooi Babywrap safety belt aperture. Place your baby in their seat, fasten the safety harness straps around your baby, then wrap the Cocooi Babywrap wings around your baby over top of the safety harness straps.
Naturally Fire Resistant
Merino fabric is naturally fire resistant and it won't melt and stick to skin like synthetics. The Merino Kids Cocooi Babywrap swaddler has passed vigorous fire safety tests and it is rated low fire risk.
Machine-Washable
The Merino Kids Cocooi Babywrap swaddler is made from the finest-spun fabric, yet it's very durable and can be machine washed and tumble-dried on a low heat setting. Merino fabric is naturally resistant to stains and odors and the Cocooi Babywrap swaddler does not require frequent washing if aired regularly. The merino fabric is quick-drying, doesn't need ironing and won't shrink. Please see washing instructions below.
Award-Winning Design
The Merino Kids Cocooi Babywrap swaddler was awarded the Seal of Outstanding Design Quality in the prestigious 2008 International Forum Product Design Awards and it also featured in the 2008 Red Dot Design Awards, which ranks among the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world.

How To Stop Swaddling
When you are ready to stop swaddling your baby, generally at the age of 2 or 3 months, the design of the Cocooi Babywrap swaddler encourages a smooth weaning transition. Start by swaddling your baby with one arm free outside the swaddle for a few days or a week. Next, in a few days or a week, swaddle your baby with both arms free. This helps your baby get used to the feeling before dispensing with the swaddler altogether. This is the ideal time for your baby to make the transition to sleeping in a Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag.
