gently
and securely in just three easy steps. You can view the video
demonstration on the Cocooi
babywrap page.
How
do
I
stop
swaddling?
When you are ready to stop swaddling your baby, generally at the age
of
2 or 3 months, the design of the Cocooi Babywrap encourages a smooth
weaning transition. We have a detailed
guide
to
stopping
swaddling which you might also find interesting.
Which size should I choose?
Merino Kids sleep sacks are available in two sizes: baby (0 - 2
years)
and toddler (2 - 4 years).
The baby size measures 33" (84 cm) in length from the high shoulder
point and is 25" (64 cm) around the chest below the armholes. The toddler size measures 42" (106 cm) in length from the high shoulder point. For more information please view the Buyers
Guide.
What is the
difference
between the Cocooi Newborn Sleep Bag and the Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag?
The Cocooi Newborn Sleep Bag is designed for newborn babies up to
three
months old. The Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag fits babies up to two years
old.
The Cocooi Newborn Sleep Bag is crafted entirely from superfine merino.
The Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag is also crafted from superfine merino
and has an outer layer of all-natural long staple cotton for added
durability to guarantee long-lasting wear.
Can I use
the
Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag for my newborn baby?
Yes. Press studs at the armholes of the Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag
adjust the fit for newborn babies but we advise a minimum weight of
7lb/3.2kg.
Is a child
able to walk in the Merino Kids toddler sleep sack?
Yes. There is generous room for toddlers to walk comfortably while wearing their sleep sack. Most toddlers quickly learn to walk in their Merino Kids baby sleep sacks; some have been known to run across the room in them. The advantage is that their legs and feet remain warm inside the sleep sack. There is no need to unzip the bottom to expose your child's feet to the cold.
Why are baby sleep
sacks a
safer alternative to blankets?
Blankets can cover a baby's head and interfere with their breathing.
The American
Academy of Pediatrics advocates the use of baby sleep sacks as a safer
alternative to loose bedding.
Why is merino
safer
than polyester?
Merino fabric readily absorbs moisture and releases it into the air
to
help prevent babies from overheating. Babies sleeping in natural merino are much less likely to overheat
than babies sleeping in polyester sleep sacks and bedding. For more
information about merino see our detailed
guide
to
merino.
Is the merino wool
treated
with chemicals?
No. The manufacturing process involves no chemicals, only natural
dyes.
Certainly no formaldehyde. Merino Kids products are naturally
fire retardant and you can rest assured they have not been treated with
the fireproofing chemicals commonly applied to polyester. All
manufacturing runs are spot-tested for chemicals and always come back
with zero levels. Merino Kids garments are compliant with all CPSIA
safety requirements. Furthermore Merino Kids use 100% recycled plastic
packaging.
Should I buy the
standard weight or winter-weight sleep sack?
The standard-weight Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag can be used
all-year-round for nursery room temperatures from 64ºF to
75ºF (18ºC to 24ºC). Simply dress your baby in more or
fewer layers of natural-fabric sleepwear in cooler or warmer seasons.
For cooler rooms or during the winter season, we recommend the
winter-weight Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag, which has an additional layer
of natural insulation to keep your baby warm in room temperatures from
59ºF to 68ºF (15ºC to 20ºC).
For more information please view the Buyers
Guide.
Is there a TOG
rating
for the Merino Kids sleep sack?
Merino Kids baby sleep sacks can be used safely in a broader range
of
temperatures than non-merino baby sleep sacks because of merino's
remarkable natural temperature-regulating properties. Use a standard
Merino Kids sleep sack when you might otherwise use non-merino sleep
bags of TOG ratings 1.0 or 2.0. Use a winter-weight Merino Kids sleep
sack when you might otherwise use non-merino sleep sacks of TOG ratings
2.0 or 2.5.
Why is the
Merino
Kids Baby Sleep Bag sleeveless? Won't my baby get cold?
The sleeveless design of the Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag allows for
free
circulation of air which further reduces the risk of overheating.
Babies sleeping under blankets rarely sleep with their arms inside the
covers and your baby will be comfortably warm in their Merino Kids
sleep sack.
Do you offer a
sleep
sack with long sleeves?
No. See above.
Does
merino
wool
itch?
No. Merino is unlike standard wool in that each merino fiber has a
silky outer layer, creating an extremely soft, fine texture. Merino
Kids use premium superfine merino which is comfortable to wear without
itch, and safe to use for babies with eczema, allergies and sensitive
skin.
What should my
baby
wear underneath their Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag?
Dress your baby in more or fewer layers of natural-fabric sleepwear
depending on the season. Try to avoid baby clothing made from polyester
fabric because it does not release heat and moisture as well.
What should my
baby
wear underneath their Cocooi Babywrap?
The Cocooi Babywrap is designed for year-round-use. In warmer room
temperatures we recommend a onesie with short sleeves. Just a diaper
inside the swaddle is fine too because the natural merino fabric is
soft and skin-safe. For cooler room temperatures we recommend
long-sleeve baby sleep suits. Since merino has the remarkable natural
ability to absorb and release moisture to regulate your baby's body
temperature, the Cocooi Babywrap can be used safely in a broader range
of room temperatures than polyester swaddles.
Can I use the
Cocooi
BabyWrap over top of the Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag?
Yes. They can be worn together as well as individually.
How many baby
sleep
sacks do I need?
We recommend the rotation of two sleep sacks to allow for one being
in
the wash.
What other
bedding do I
use with my Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag?
Use only a flat or fitted bottom sheet on the bassinet/cot/bed. It
is
not necessary to use blankets, top sheets or comforters, which might
cover their face.
I have a
large
baby. Can I move into the toddler size?
If your baby is getting too big for their baby-size sleep sack you
may
like to upsize to the toddler size but please keep in mind that the
neckline and armholes are larger in the toddler size, not just the
length. The bodice should fit snugly around your baby's chest and
neckline for safety reasons.
My baby is
five
weeks old. Can I use a Cocooi Babywrap?
At that age your baby would not get much wear from a Cocooi
Babywrap.
We suggest you move your child to a Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag which
will fit them up to two years old.
Do you have
a
swaddle to fit babies over 3 months old?
No. Most babies are ready to stop being swaddled at the age of 2 or
3
months.
How do I wash
my
Merino Kids garment?
Merino Kids baby sleep sacks, baby wraps and gowns are made from
only
natural fibers. Please carefully follow the washing instructions found
inside the garment. For more information view our How
to
Wash
Merino section.
Where are Merino
Kids
garments made?
All Merino Kids garments are designed and tested in New Zealand. The
merino wool is supplied by sheep farms in the mountainous high country
of New Zealand's South Island. The superfine-grade merino wool is spun
and woven into soft merino fabric in Italy. Some products are made in
New Zealand, such as the Cocooi Newborn Gown. Other products are made in India, such as the new Sandshell winter-weight sleep sacks and Oatmeal baby sleep sacks. Some product are
finished in Shanghai in a sweatshop-free environment. The Merino Kids
company is dedicated to sourcing the best environmentally-friendly
fabric manufacturing and finishing processes, to ensure its fabrics
remain a sustainable and biodegradable resource.
