Description:

The Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag is the ultimate baby sleep sack, crafted from New Zealand's finest, softest merino wool to create the perfect safe micro-climate around baby's body for thermal comfort and well-being. Winner iF Product Design Award.

Two sizes: Baby 0 to 2 years | Toddler 2 to 4 years.

All-year-round use. Ideal for standard room temperatures from 64°F to 75°F.

Fabric Benefits

Merino wool is nature's smart fiber and the fabric of our times. Soft as silk, yet durable. Warm yet breathable.

Merino has the remarkable ability to regulate body temperature. It captures and circulates air to insulate baby when the room temperature falls, and releases excess body heat and moisture as the room temperature rises. Baby stays warm and dry through night and day without overheating.

Research shows merino is the ideal fabric for baby sleep sacks. A 2010 AgResearch study determined that babies sleeping in Merino Kids' newborn merino sleep sack are less likely to overheat or to become damp or chilled compared with synthetic polar fleece sleep sacks.

Itch-free and allergy-safe. Naturally fire resistant; rated low fire risk. Machine washable, can be tumble-dried.

Design Features

  • Patented safety belt aperture enables safe travel in stroller or car seat.
  • Baby has freedom to move naturally and room to grow yet they can't slip underneath, nor wriggle out and wake up cold.
  • Contoured bodice stays clear of face.
  • Full-length self-locking zipper down one side, away from face. Zipper sewn inside lining so won't scratch. No harsh, noisy velcro.
  • Opens up flat for easy dressing. Unzips bottom-up for quick diaper changes
  • Fits growing child safely and comfortably for up to two years. Quality workmanship ensures years of wear. Excellent value compared to other sleep sacks that last only a few months.
  • Outer layer is 100% natural long staple cotton for extra durability.

5Merino Kids vs WoolinoOct 15, 2011
By Mika Vevo
First of all if you are expecting the bags to be made out of merino wool and look like wool blanket, you will be disappointed. Both brands are rather thick outer cotton bag with thin (about as thick as cotton onsie) inner merino fabric layer. I have a feeling that merino wool is there more to regulate temperature, than to keep baby warm.

Since I couldn't decide between those 2 brands, here are the main differences I found:

- Shoulder snaps: Merino has the snaps only on one shoulder, Woolino on both.
- Armpit snaps: both Merino NB-2 and Woolino have one snap to make the armholes smaller, about half way through opening. Merino 2-4 doesn't have an armpit snap.
- Car seat buckle hole: Merino has them, Woolino doesn't.
- Snaps to make the sleeping bag shorter: only Woolino has them. One set of snaps on side of the bag which would make the bag short enough for a newborn or so.
- Cotton quality: Woolino was softer than Merino 2-4. The Merino 0-2 I have received was, however the softest of all 3. The cotton was organic, which the manufacturer didn't advertise and it wasn't the case of the bigger Merino bag.
- Made in: Woolino made in China. Merino 2-4 assembled in China. Merino 1-2 made in India. All made with Australian Merino Wool.
- Zipper: same quality and design in all 3.
- Size: Merino 0-2 and Woolino are very similar size, with lots of room to grow for my 7 month old (he is 27-28 inch long). Merino 2-4 was very long and since my baby is skinny, there was no way I could start using it that early - he would squeeze through the neck opening. Here is the Merino Kids Size chart:

Age.....Length......Chest Width at Binding.....Neck Opening.......1/2 arm Opening
0-2.....34 inch......11 inch...................5 inch.............7 inch
2-4.....42.5 inch....12.5 inch.................5.5 inch...........8 inch

- Merino wool inner layer: it looked similar in both products. I didn't have access to the Merino Kids winter weight.
- Nursery temperature range: Merino standard is 64-80 F, Merino winter (also called Duvet) is 60 - 64.4 F. Woolino is 65 - 77 F.
- Travel bag: Both Woolino and Merino 2-4 had cotton travel bags as advertised in addition to the plastic zipper bag they came in. The Merino 0-2 came packed in see-through fabric bag, which could be used as a travel bag.

Since the Merino Kids 0-2 I have received was made with organic cotton I have decided to keep that one. I know of another person who ordered it from Amazon and received the organic version as well. Not sure if it was a fluke, or all shipped by Amazon in the smaller size are organic.
There were other 2 things which made me like the Merino Kids more. First one was the car seat buckle hole. I like the ability to use the bag with a swing. I also found the hole to be very convenient for quick check to make sure the diaper didn't leak (I have small hands though). Secondly I wasn't crazy about the snaps on the Woolino - seemed like something not very comfortable to roll on.
Since when I was purchasing it, there was promotion for Merino Kids, it made the price difference smaller between the two brands. If not for the promotion I might have decided for Woolino instead. Beside the random organic cotton, the differences in products weren't big enough to justify $50 difference in price.
I have been using the bag and washing it for few weeks now and love it. The baby is nice and warm, but not sweaty. No flame retardants, all natural product - I am glad I purchased it. I feel that the price was high, but if it really lasts us until 2 year mark, it will be a good investment.

Here is the temp chart I found for the dressing suggestions with Merino bag:
80 F - Diaper only
78 F - Short sleeved onsie
71 F - Long sleeved onsie
64 F - Long sleeved onsie + pajama
62 F - Long sleeved onsie + pajama

5long lasting and roomyJul 21, 2008
By R. G. Walls
My grandson's merino kids sleep sack still fits him fine at 18 months old. Plenty of room to grow and all year use make it really good value. You don't need to buy sleep sacks for every size and season. My grandson is happy to wear his sleep sack because it is so roomy for his legs. He will sit happily in his sleep sack and watch TV or read books to wind down before bedtime. Highly recommend if you want a long lasting sleep sack.

5Magic Sleep SackAug 25, 2008
By St Heliers mother "Former Super Nanny"
I was given this sleep sack when my baby was born, she still wears it at night and she still has room to grow. It's been fantastic, regulating her temperature and I know she is perfectly warm. When transferring baby to the car seat the merino sleep sack has a convenient design which allows baby not to be disturbed and makes going out a breeze. The dome on the shoulder unclips for feeding time and this sleep sack washes well and drys fast. I am very impressed and rate this an essential item for any new mother.

5Would recommendJul 10, 2008
By Joan
I switched to sleep bags because my son kept wriggling loose of his bedding and waking up cold. At first I tried a quilted sleep bag which worked ok on cold nights but sometimes it made him too hot and I would find him red in the face. The other issue with the quilted one was that it bunched up around his mouth which made me nervous and I was always checking on him. Then I was given a merino kids sleep bag and it is so much better. My son never gets too hot and it hugs his chest and never rides up. If you have tried other sleep bags and been put off, I recommend you give the Merino Kids one a go. You'll be amazed at the difference.

5Great value for moneyAug 25, 2008
By St Heliers mother "Former Super Nanny"
If you are looking for a long lasting, all season, sleep sack I highly recommend the merino grobag. My baby has slept in hers for over a year and still has room to grow! She can crawl and stand in it making life easy and dosen't restrict movement. This bag washes well and looks like new. Simply don't know what I'd do without it.
